Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky had intriguing things to say to the media.

A lot has happened around Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. His world is very different now than it was when the 2019 season ended. Team general manager Ryan Pace announced at the end of the season press conference that the Bears would go into the 2020 season with Trubisky as the starting quarterback. That was back when there was no backup option since Chase Daniel would be a free agent.

Pace then went out and overhauled the coaching staff. He brought in Bill Lazor to be the offensive coordinator and John DeFilippo to be the quarterbacks coach.

Next, Pace traded the Chicago Bears’ compensatory pick, a fourth-round pick, to the Jacksonville Jaguars for Nick Foles. The Bears then renegotiated Foles’ huge contract from $58 million over three years to $24 million.

Picking up Foles was interesting because he is familiar with the new coaching staff and with head coach Matt Nagy. He worked with Lazor and DeFilippo and Nagy when they were all with the Philadelphia Eagles. He also worked with Nagy when they were with the Kansas City. That gave Foles kind of an advantage because he has a good grasp of the offensive system, having worked it all the way to a Super Bowl victory and a Super Bowl MVP.

If that wasn’t enough, the Bears declined to pick up Trubisky’s fifth-year option that would have paid him $24.8 million in 2021. The other two quarterbacks he’s always compared to, Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes, had their options quickly picked up by their teams.

To top it off, in addition to the moves the Bears made, critics around the league piled on Trubisky. With a quarterback battle now on, those critics continue to highlight Trubisky’s struggles. The negativity around him is at an all-time high.

Late last week, Trubisky opened up to the media. He spoke about what happened to him this offseason. He offered his thoughts on everything and his mindset entering the most important moment of his young career. Here are five takeaways from what he said.
