The latest Cowboys rumors have an update on the Dak Prescott contract.

All offseason, the Dallas Cowboys have seemingly been playing with fire, especially as it pertains to quarterback Dak Prescott. As the 2016 fourth-round pick has been looking for a new contract — deservedly so, it should be noted — they have been unable to reach a deal.

When the start of free agency was approaching the inability to get a deal done with Prescott almost came close to costing them Amari Cooper. The wide receiver got heavy interest from Washington but, fortunately for Dallas, the Cowboys were able to sign him to a long-term deal while the quarterback was slapped with the exclusive rights franchise tag.

Though Dak will be on the roster for the 2020 season regardless of if a new contract gets done due to the franchise tag, the two parties have continued to try and negotiate a deal. That may have been made more difficult by the current global pandemic but talks have been sustained nonetheless — yet, no deal has come about yet as the July 15 deadline for players on the franchise tag to sign a long-term contract.

According to NFL insider Jay Glazer, via Skip Bayless, the fact that there isn’t a deal yet doesn’t mean there won’t be one before the deadline.

As we all know, things can change by the minute when it comes to contract negotiations in the NFL. Having said that, Glazer’s report makes it seem as if all things are a go for the Cowboys to lock up their quarterback for the long haul.

As expected, don’t worry about the Dak Prescott deal and the Cowboys.

Throughout the rollercoaster ride that has been the Dak Prescott contract saga, it has long felt like the most pointless game of chicken imaginable, at least from the team’s side. They know that the quarterback is worth the money; they know that paying him sooner rather than later will save them money in the long run; they know that they should eventually just pony up. But for whatever reason they haven’t.

At the same time, as the July 15 deadline has crept closer, there has always been a feeling that the deal would get done eventually. In the end, the most likely outcome is that the Cowboys acquiesce to the quarterback’s demands to ensure that they have him in the building for the foreseeable future.

How it plays out remains to be seen. But if we’re taking the recent reports for what they’re worth, that’s been the right feeling to take away from everything. Fans can rest easy because, according to what we’re hearing, the Dak Prescott deal will be done in due time.
