3 Most overlooked Dallas Cowboys in 2020
By Randy Gurzi
The Dallas Cowboys have their share of stars but they also have some overlooked players
Looking ahead to the 2020 NFL season, it’s easy to see why Dallas Cowboys fans are hopeful. They have new leadership in Mike McCarthy and are returning some of their biggest star players. They also had a pretty successful draft and added some defensive talent in free agency.
On the flip side, they also lost some key starters this offseason as well. Cornerback Byron Jones signed with the Miami Dolphins, defensive end Robert Quinn joined the Chicago Bears, and center Travis Frederick decided to retire.
Dallas has gone out and made the moves they felt they needed to in order to replace those departed players. However, it might not be the big-name rookies or well-known free agent signings that the team leans on as they look to improve this season.
Instead, they could be counting heavily on some of their returning veterans to take the next step. And here, we look at three such players who might be getting overlooked this year.
Notable Omission: Joe Looney, Center
Just missing the cut is Joe Looney. Fans are understandably excited about the addition of rookie Tyler Biadasz, who could be the long-term center for Dallas. There’s also a chance Connor McGovern can get the job done. He missed his entire rookie season but the former Penn State offensive lineman was solid at center for the Nittany Lions.
There’s also Joe Looney, the veteran who started the entire 2018 season in place of Frederick. Looney wasn’t exactly a Pro Bowl player but he also wasn’t a liability for them. His presence gives them a player they can trust should neither of the young options be ready this season.
