Stealing from the Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes, QB

This one is pretty obvious. It doesn’t matter who your quarterback is in the NFL — if you had the opportunity to steal Patrick Mahomes off of the Kansas City Chiefs, you would undoubtedly take it.

In his two years as the Chiefs starting quarterback, Mahomes has done nothing but set the league on fire. In 30 regular-season games, Mahomes has thrown for 9,128 yards with 76 touchdowns and only 17 interceptions. Oh yeah, he was also named the 2018 NFL MVP and led Kansas City to a Super Bowl victory over the 49ers last season. No biggie.

But even if any team would take the best quarterback in the league — who turns just 25 years old in September — the Raiders would take him in an even quicker heartbeat in most. Because as much as Jon Gruden can say that Derek Carr is his guy, there is a clear and present need to upgrade at the position.

While there are plenty of worse options than Carr in the NFL, he gives the Las Vegas offense a defined ceiling, or at least he has to this point. Maybe the new weapons brought in this offseason will change that but it’s difficult to fully believe that’s the case.

Mahomes would immediately change that. He’s benefitted from working in Andy Reid’s offense to this point, Gruden is no slouch in that department. Seeing what he could do with the league’s next longtime superstar quarterback would be thrilling to watch.
