Cincinnati Bengals – Garrison Hearst

Taken at No. 3 overall out of Georgia, Garrison Hearst was expected to be a star in the NFL. However, knee injuries slowed him down early in his career with the Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals. After running for 264 yards as a rookie in six games and 169 in eight the following season, Hearst broke out in year three.

Arizona’s running back had 1,070 yards on the ground but just one touchdown rush. The Cardinals decided to go in a different direction after that season as he was let go in favor of Leeland McElroy. That was a bad choice as Hearst would go on to have a lot of success for the San Francisco 49ers.

Before that, he took a one-year detour in Cincinnati as the Bengals claimed him following the release by Arizona. Hearst played well for in Cincy, rushing for 847 yards for them but they allowed the speedy back to get away after just one season.

Hearst missed two years in 1999 and 2000 following complications from surgery but returned to run another 1,206 yards in 2001 and earn the Comeback Player of the Year Award.

James Harrison is another player to consider here as the Bengals also had the former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker on the team in 2013, but it seems more people would remember him being there than they would Hearst.
