2018 NFL Redraft: Lamar Jackson saves the Cleveland Browns
By Samuel Teets
11. Miami Dolphins: Nick Chubb, RB (Minkah Fitzpatrick, S)
As a freshman at Georgia, Chubb was one of the best running backs in the country. Then, he suffered a devastating knee injury in his sophomore season. Chubb spent the final two years of his collegiate career rebuilding his draft stock, and eventually, the Cleveland Browns selected him with the 35th overall pick in 2018.
Any team that passed over Chubb because of injury concerns looks foolish today. Two years into his career, Chubb leads all running backs from the 2018 draft class, including Saquon Barkley, in rushing yards with 2,490. He’s also averaging 5.1 yards per carry and 91.1 yards from scrimmage per game.
Chubb is one of the top-five running backs in the NFL. He’s a force to be reckoned with and should only continue his climb up the running back hierarchy as Cleveland builds its offensive line.
In this scenario, Chubb heads to Miami. In 2018, 35-year-old Frank Gore led the Dolphins with 722 rushing yards. Gore is a living legend and future Hall of Fame running back, but Miami would gladly add Chubb, even if it meant cutting down on Gore’s workload. Kenyan Drake also played a role on the team, rushing for 535 yards on 120 carries.
Pro Football Focus’ Sam Monson recently wrote an article claiming Chubb is the best running back in the NFL. If that’s true, Miami would be crazy not to draft the Georgia product, even if that means passing on their real 2018 first-round pick, Minkah Fitzpatrick.
