Cleveland Browns: 5 Free agents to sign before training camp
3. Logan Ryan, CB
While some people have questions about the ceiling of the Browns’ two young starting cornerbacks, Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams, the undeniable fact is that they are both athletic and possess raw talent. And as they’re both within their first three years in the NFL, you have to allow for upside for these players to develop into their final forms.
But with Ward and Williams set to man the outside, where there is a little bit of a concern, at least by my estimation, is in the nickel role. Make no mistake, Terrance Mitchell performed quite well there at times in the 2019 season. However, given Mitchell’s overall career and sometimes up-and-down play, perhaps that’s an area where the Browns could look to upgrade.
Logan Ryan is coming off of the best season of his career, one for which he should’ve received legitimate Defensive Player of the Year love. Whether it was ball production, tackle production or even sack production, the cornerback did it all for the Titans last season. He was all over the field from his role in the slot.
This would undoubtedly be a luxury pickup for the Browns because, as mentioned, this isn’t the biggest need that they need to address. Having said that, if they want to really scare opposing offenses, having a trio of Ward, Williams and Ryan would almost surely do the trick.
