2. Adam Shaheen, Tight End

The Chicago Bears had high hopes for Adam Shaheen. He was their second-round pick (45th overall) in the 2017 NFL draft. Pace has a successful history of drafting in the second round. He has Eddie Goldman, Cody Whitehair, James Daniels, and Anthony Miller on his resume.

He also has Shaheen.

Shaheen’s time with the Bears is so bad that the number of his career receptions (26) ranks 111th of 136 tight ends chosen in the first three rounds of the draft between 1999 and 2019. That’s pretty bad.

Shaheen has one last to change the narrative. As mentioned before, the Bears have nine tight ends on the current roster. Jimmy Graham, Demetrius Harris, and Cole Kmet are locks to make the team. That leaves Ben Braunecker, J.P. Holtz, Jesper Horsted, Eric Saubert, Darion Clark, and Shaheen to battle for a tight end spot and/or special teams spot.

The Bears still hope Shaheen puts everything together. New tight ends coach Clancy Barone is the latest one with hope in Shaheen, per the Daily Herald:

"Adam is a guy that I think has a very, very bright future. I’ve got plans for him to do things in our offense. He was a guy I absolutely loved when he was in college. I thought he was a fantastic prospect. Everything about him, his height, his length, everything about the guy is what you want."

Let’s see if Barone is the guy who finally gets Shaheen to play his best. The Bears will give him every opportunity to finally put it together. He only counts as $1.88 million against the cap so keeping him is a cheap option.

Parting ways with him is also a cheap option. If they cut him, they’ll only have about $610,000 in dead money. That means it’s up to Shaheen to decide if he’ll be in a Chicago Bears uniform or not. It’s time for Shaheen to finally play to expectations or try to find a job somewhere else.
