The Las Vegas Raiders have several cut candidates squarely on the roster bubble.

The Las Vegas Raiders have been getting a facelift, one that started with the hiring of Jon Gruden as their head coach and has continued since Mike Mayock took over as general manager. And while many people have been critical of the silver and black’s approach to many of their decisions, they’ve been on the upswing.

A year ago, the Raiders finished third in the AFC West but were 7-9 and hunting for a playoff spot late in the year. With another offseason adding talent and addressing weaknesses on both sides of the ball, there’s no reason to believe they can’t be in the mix for a postseason berth again — especially now that seven teams from each conference can now get the nod.

But as the newest residents of Las Vegas are building, that means that they are also turning over parts of their roster. And with training camp ready to begin on July 28, these five Raiders players appear to be sitting on the roster bubble as likely cut candidates for the 2020 season.

5. Zay Jones, WR

Do you think that the Las Vegas Raiders were aware that they needed help at wide receiver in the 2020 offseason? Not only did they get great value in signing Nelson Agholor as a free agent but they then went heavy at the position in the NFL Draft.

In the first round, the Raiders took the speedy Henry Ruggs III in the first round then followed that up with Bryan Edwards in the third round and Lynn Bowden Jr., a versatile running back/wide receiver gadget player, also in Round 3. But in doing so, the Raiders are likely paving the road out of Sin City for one of the veterans they have signed.

While the Raiders would likely love to part ways with Tyrell Williams, they can’t take on $11 million in dead cap to save just over a $1 million. Instead, they could recoup all of the roughly $1.39 million owed to Zay Jones this season. The former Bills pass-catcher has never found his groove in the NFL and that should continue if Las Vegas is wise and elects to put him on the wrong side of the cut line.
