Pick Analysis. Wisconsin. Jake Ferguson. 3. 809. Scouting Report. TE. player

This season, the Dallas Cowboys seem to be all-in on tight end Blake Jarwin who just received a three-year extension that will pay him around $24.2 million. A formerly undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State, Jarwin has developed into a play-making tight end and is coming off his best season in the NFL.

Playing behind Jason Witten in 2019, Jarwin had 31 receptions for 365 yards and three touchdowns. All were career-highs and with Witten now joining the Las Vegas Raiders, the door is open for Jarwin to take hold of the position for the foreseeable future.

Behind him is Blake Bell, a free agent pick-up from the Kansas City Chiefs and third-year pro Dalton Schultz. Both Bell and Schultz are known for their blocking but Schultz has shown some flashes in the past. In 2018, he had 12 catches for 116 yards before being relegated to third-string when Witten returned. In that role, Schultz had just one reception for six yards.

With their third-round pick in this 2021 NFL Mock Draft, the Cowboys add another player to the mix in Jake Ferguson from Wisconsin. Ferguson is more similar to Jarwin than Bell or Schultz as he’s a polished receiver that could use some work in the blocking department.

In the past, Dallas wouldn’t have touched a tight end in the draft that isn’t a solid blocker but with Mike McCarthy now calling the shots, he’ll have no problem getting players who can open the passing game up even more.
