David Njoku trade landing spot No. 4. Houston Texans

For some reason, the Houston Texans have struggled mightily to find a consistent tight end. Back in the day, they had Owen Daniels who had an eight-year run with the team but after he left ahead of the 2014 season, it’s been a revolving door for them.

In 2019, they did find some consistency and it was with a player David Njoku knows very well. Darren Fells has been an NFL journeyman, playing for four different teams in each of the past four seasons. He got a late start in the NFL after trying his hand at professional basketball but has done a good job making a name for himself during his six seasons in the NFL.

His connection to Njoku comes through the Browns as the two were both on the roster in 2018. Fells, who actually caught Baker Mayfield’s first-ever touchdown pass, was the blocking tight end for Cleveland and finished with just 11 receptions for 117 yards and three touchdowns.

Fells was released the following offseason and landed with the Houston Texans. He then had his best season ever with career highs in receptions with 34, yards with 341, and touchdowns with seven. Heading in 2020, he looks as though he could remain their starting tight end and could be a huge red zone threat but at 33-years of age, it would be a good idea for Houston to add a younger player who can do more in the passing game.
