Pre-camp 2020 NFL Quarterback Power Rankings after Cam Newton signing.

All offseason, the expectation was that the New England Patriots were going to make a move for a new quarterback. With Tom Brady heading to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it only felt right that they would find someone during this year’s NFL quarterback musical chairs to take the reins from the best player they’ve ever had.

First, it was in free agency with some veterans such as Andy Dalton being mentioned. There was also the idea being floated that former No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston could join New England. But nothing happened outside of them bringing Brian Hoyer back for a third stint. Then, it was the draft where they didn’t even take a quarterback.

This led to us all resigning to the belief that Jarrett Stidham was going to be the guy with the veteran Hoyer there as a safety net. However, head coach Bill Belichick had another trick up his sleeve as he wasn’t done making moves.

As the month of June came to a close, the Patriots shocked us all as they agreed to terms with Cam Newton, the former NFL MVP who was let go by the Carolina Panthers this offseason when Matt Rhule took over as the head coach.

Making the move even more impressive was the following revelation that Newton had hardly any guaranteed money and has a salary cap hit of just $1.13 million according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com.

Now with a motivated Newton in town, New England looks ready to compete for the AFC East title once again. They also see their signal-caller shoot up the ranks in our latest 2020 NFL Quarterback Power Rankings.
