2020 NFL Quarterback Power Rankings: Cam Newton signing shakes things up

Nothing is going to help the progression of Dak Prescott more than the departure of Jason Garrett. For whatever reason, the former Dallas Cowboys head coach stuck around for a full decade and hurt the prime of Tony Romo’s career with his ultra-conservative ways. He was threatening to do the same to Prescott but that won’t happen now that he’s with the New York Giants.
As for Prescott, he’s coming off his best season as a passer which saw him finish just one yard shy of the team record for the most passing yards in a single season. He’s taken a huge step forward with his ability to read a defense and his accuracy on the deep ball improved tremendously from his first three seasons.
He’s still the starter for the most polarizing team in the NFL though, so the criticism will always be loud. However, if he were on any other team, he would be a massive success story considering he was a fourth-round pick who many thought needed three-to-four years of seasoning before being ready to start. Instead, he has two division titles and has never missed a start in his first four seasons.
It seemed for a minute as though Deshaun Watson could be getting frustrated with his team, which would be understandable. The Houston Texans have given all the control of their roster to Bill O’Brien and the head coach continues to make baffling moves — such as trading away DeAndre Hopkins.
He did at least add Randall Cobb and Brandin Cooks, but Hopkins was one of the best, if not the best, in the game. Watson still is an elite talent who can pick teams apart with his arm and leg so he should be able to get the job done, and his team will still be the favorites in the AFC South heading into the 2020 season.
Even so, you have to wonder how much longer until O’Brien starts to push Watson away.
