2020 NFL Quarterback Power Rankings: Cam Newton signing shakes things up
By Randy Gurzi
At this same point a year ago, Baker Mayfield looked as though he was en route to becoming a top 10 quarterback candidate. He put his name in the record books by surpassing Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson for the most touchdown passes as a rookie. Then, the Cleveland Browns made things even more interesting as they added Odell Beckham, Jr. to the mix.
Sadly for Cleveland, this didn’t have the desired effect. A shoddy offensive line and poor play-calling limited Mayfield and send him into year three with more questions than answers. He has the moxie and the arm, but if he can’t stop turning it over, he will stay on the wrong side of the quarterback power rankings.
Since 2004, Philip Rivers has been a part of the Chargers organization but that changes as he starts 2020 with the Indianapolis Colts. Rivers is coming off a frustrating season that saw him throw far too many picks, but now that he will be playing in a dome in Indy, there’s a chance he could find some of his old magic.
The Colts also added Jonathan Taylor in the draft, meaning they have him and Marlon Mack in the backfield to take some of the pressure off Rivers. He still needs to prove 2019 was a fluke but if he can return to form, this could suddenly be a team to watch in the AFC South.
