The Baltimore Ravens should rent: Taylor Gabriel, WR

The Chicago Bears released the fast-twitched wideout Taylor Gabriel after the 2019 season after suffering from two concussions with the second causing him to miss the remaining five weeks of the season. Before missing the rest of the year, though, Gabriel played in nine games, catching 29 of his 48 targets (60.4 percent) for 353 yards (79 of which were after the catch) and four touchdowns. In addition to his receiving statistics, he recorded three rushes for 20 yards.

In 2018, playing in all 16 games, Gabriel hauled in 67 of his 93 targets (72 percent) for 688 yards (226 YAC) and two touchdowns, while also compiling nine rushes for 61 yards. His production, or lack thereof, leads to many teams looking for a wideout in 2020 to test their luck elsewhere. For the Baltimore Ravens, on the other hand, he has nearly the same build as Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, standing at 5-7, 168 pounds.

What makes him an attractive option for Baltimore is that he is a cheap option who can run reverses in Brown’s place, promoting the second-year’s longevity, while giving Lamar Jackson another small, fast target to throw to when scrambling. He provides versatility to the lineup as he can play in the slot, outside or as a kick/punt returner.

The biggest upside for this signing would be having two small and speedy options on both sides of the field to terrorize defenses while allowing Harbaugh to rest Brown by subbing in Gabriel for a run play. Because Gabriel has failed to find a home in the NFL after finding a new team every other year, he will come at a reduced cost, especially given his injury-plagued season in 2019.
