Predicting Dallas Cowboys 2020 depth chart: Defensive Line
By Randy Gurzi
Fighting for a job
The Cowboys have a couple of other possible players fighting for a spot on the roster, although these following names have an uphill battle if they want to make the 2020 roster.
Jalen Jelks
Last year, the Cowboys added Oregon defensive end Jalen Jelks in the seventh round of the draft. Jelks spent the season on the practice squad after recording five tackles and one sack in the preseason.
Jelks was selected by Dallas with the expectation that it could take some time for him to develop and he’s another player who could have benefited from getting into the offseason programs and showing what a year on the practice squad did for him. Unfortunately, he will most likely have another year there but there’s still hope he can develop into a situational pass rusher.
Ron’Dell Carter
After the draft was over, Ron’Dell Carter was a highly sought-after name and reportedly turned down 24 teams in order to sign with the Dallas Cowboys — who offered him a lot of guaranteed money according to Patrik Walker of CBS Sports.
Carter was a star at James Madison but was undrafted due to there bing concerns about the lack of elite competition faced while playing collegiately. Should he prove capable, the Cowboys might want to keep him on the team since he was such a hot commodity. Then again, they could also consider him for their rotational practice squad position which allows the team to keep 55 players — as long as the 54th and 55th player are squad eligible.
Randy Gregory (maybe)
There are suddenly reports that the Cowboys have given up hope on ever having Randt Gregory play for them again. There were also those who debunked this. As for my opinion — let’s just move on and pretend he’s not there. Because at this point, that’s where it seems to be heading.
