Trysten Hill

Last season, Trysten Hill was the top rookie for the Dallas Cowboys. This season, he’s on the roster bubble thanks to their additions in the offseason.

Without a first-round pick due to the Amari Cooper trade, Dallas ignored their massive need at safety and decided to use the 58th overall pick on Hill. That was instantly criticized and he hardly made an impact as a rookie.

Hill, who was benched during his final season at UCF, had his share of problems as a rookie and only saw the field in seven games and made five total tackles. He struggled to get into the games without near as much talent ahead of him as there is now, which doesn’t bode well for him.

The raw talent is there but he suddenly has a lot of work ahead of him if he ever wants to see the field. Hill likely makes the final roster but it’s not guaranteed.

Garrett Marino

The Cowboys picked up the former University of Alabama at Birmingham defensive tackle Garrett Marnin following the 2020 NFL Draft. The undrafted free agent excelled as pass rusher and finished with 6.5 tackles in his senior season.

His biggest competition for a roster spot is going to be Hill, which could hurt him since the Cowboys did use a high draft pick on Hill. Having said that, this coaching staff wasn’t the one that thought highly of Hill, so there could be a shot Marino could make the team.

Of course, the lack of offseason programs and potential loss of preseason games could hurt him as well as he looks to catch on.
