Packers early bold prediction No. 1: Green Bay goes 10-6, wins NFC North

The Packers will need a bit of luck to help replicate the season they produced in 2019. Green Bay finished with a record of 8-1 in one-score games (margin of eight points or less) last season, a sign of the team could see regression in 2020.

Winning in the NFL is never easy. Winning in a one-score game is even harder. The Packers have their work cut out for them in 2020 after enjoying a 13-3 record last season. Because the Packers were so efficient in one-score games last year, a final record of 10-6 wouldn’t be surprising in 2020. Splitting one-score games is more than plausible this season.

Every year we see teams fail to live up to expectations after a record of 12-4 or 13-3. Look at the Chicago Bears in 2018, for instance, who finished the regular season with a record of 12-4. The following year, the Bears finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs. I’m not saying the Packers will miss the playoffs this coming season, but replicating 13 wins isn’t likely.

Additionally, because they won their division, the Packers will have to play a first-place schedule in 2020. Theoretically, the Packers will face tougher opponents based on the previous season’s standings. Strength of schedule isn’t the best indicator of predicting how a team will finish since the NFL has such parity year over year, but the Packers don’t have a cakewalk schedule this coming season.
