Madden 21 ratings: 5 NFL players rated too high, 5 rated too low

Madden 21 ratings have dropped and these players are overrated and underrated.

Over the course of last week, EA Sports trickled out the Madden 21 ratings for the 2020 NFL season. Now the dust has settled and the ratings for every player on all 32 NFL teams, rookies and veterans alike, have now been released. So now it’s time to see what we make of the Madden 21 player ratings and where they got it right and, more pressingly, got it wrong.

At the top of the ratings is the group that joined the vaunted 99 Club, getting the highest available rating in the game. And while it’d be fun to argue about the players who will be 99 overall in the upcoming video game release, it’s difficult to fight EA Sports over the five players who earned that distinction.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes won MVP then led the way to a Super Bowl. New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas is fresh off setting the NFL single-season record for receptions. Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald might be the best overall player in the league. New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore was near untouchable in coverage. Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is a dual-threat stud.

But while we can’t argue the merits of the players that made it to the 99 Club in Madden 21, we can argue about several of the players thereafter. There are a number of NFL players who EA Sports and the Madden ratings adjustors simply missed the mark on, either rating them too high or too low.

That’s where our focus lies today. We’ll be looking at five players who are overrated and five players who are underrated in the Madden 21 ratings and, of course, offer a solution as to what they should’ve been rated. This isn’t the full list of overrated and underrated players but, rather, just a snapshot of some of the more egregious misses.
