Packers eye high-upside fliers in the late rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft

When it comes to the Packers defensive line, they have one of the most underrated players in the entire league with Kenny Clark. Meanwhile, they re-signed Dean Lowry last offseason, a player they obviously value. Yet, the depth and quality around those two is lacking and Green Bay likes a high-upside gamble at the position.

That’s where Bobby Brown III comes into play. When you watch the Texas A&M product’s best reps, you’re wowed by what he’s capable of. What you want, though, is for him to give more consistent effort and show those reps more often. The upside is there, though, making him well worth a Round 5 pick.

Trevon Grimes was a 5-star recruit who started his college career at Ohio State but, after some unsightly allegations against the Buckeyes coaching staff, transferred to Florida. Looking at the 6-4, 215-pound receiver, it’s not hard to see why he was so highly thought of coming out of high school.

We haven’t seen Grimes be a true game-changer just yet but, with his frame and athleticism in relation to his size, it’s not hard to see him succeeding in the NFL. He’s not a major athlete overall, especially in comparison to a player like Rondale Moore, but he’d bring adequate young depth to a wide receiver room that needs it.

As mentioned, the late-round picks for Green Bay should be all about trying to find upside. Taking a player with Patrick Johnson’s skillset is the epitome of that in the seventh round as he’s merely a ball of clay at this point.

Johnson has played all over the defense for Tulane and has excelled in many of those areas. He profiles mostly as a sub-package pass-rusher in the NFL but has versatility that should be enticing for defensive coordinator Mike Pettine to get his hands on and try to best utilize.
