Predicting the Dallas Cowboys cornerback depth chart in 2020

For whatever reason, the Dallas Cowboys have had issues at cornerback for the better part of the last decade. They’ve tried throwing top draft picks and big contracts at the position, but have come up the same every time — with average play.

One example of this was back in 2012 when they gave Brandon Carr a five-year, $50.1 million contract while also trading the No. 14 and no. 45 overall picks in the draft to be able to use the sixth pick on Morris Claiborne. Neither player was bad but Carr didn’t live up to the high price tag and Claiborne’s development was stunted by constant injuries.

Since then, they’ve continued to look for talent but have yet to invest too heavily. That was proven this offseason when they elected not to pay Byron Jones in free agency, who was coming off his best two seasons as a pro.

Jones was a first-round pick himself in 2015 but Dallas didn’t make a move up the draft for him as they did with Claiborne. They also originally had him at free safety until the 2018 season, which was also his first Pro Bowl campaign.

With him gone, they now have a couple of former day two picks in Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis as well as this year’s second-round pick Trevon Diggs in the mix to start. We also can’t forget about Anthony Brown, a sixth-round selection in 2016 who did get a second contract from the Cowboys.

Here we will look at all those players and more as we predict how the Dallas Cowboys depth chart will look at cornerback in the 2020 NFL season.
