Dallas Cowboys cornerbacks: Reserves

Trevon Diggs

Dallas needed help at cornerback after letting Byron Jones walk and they felt confident with the depth in the 2020 class that they could find a long-term starter. They believe they did this with Trevon Diggs, who they took in the second round out of Alabama.

In just about any other recent class, Diggs likely would have gone in the first, which left the Cowboys ecstatic to land him at No. 51 overall. Diggs is listed at 6-foot-1 and just under 200-pounds. He’s a former receiver who understands routes and has the length to knock the ball away from the opponent.

He might not start in Week 1, but look for him to be on the field a lot as they hope to develop him into their No. 1 corner very shortly.

Jourdan Lewis

2017 was another loaded draft class for cornerbacks and the Cowboys doubled up in that draft (like they did in 2020 with Trevon Diggs in Round 2 and Reggie Robinson in Round 4). In 2017, they went with Chidobe Awuzie in the second round and went right back for another by taking Jourdan Lewis in the third.

The Michigan product never won over the staff in Dallas despite being one of the better corners on the team. It took an injury to Anthony Brown to get him snaps last season and, as he always does when given a chance, he made the most of every opportunity.

Lewis is hoping a new regime will help him out but the way they have been adding length doesn’t bode well for him. His talent is sufficient, but he can’t make his measurements what the coaches want. Like Awuzie though, he will do well elsewhere if this ends up being his final season with the Cowboys.

Reggie Robinson

Drafted in the fourth round out of Tulsa, Reggie Robinson was a darkhorse pick for many scouts. His size, speed, and physicality are what defensive coordinators dream of. However, he didn’t face elite competition so this year will be all about getting up to speed. Still, he will be on the final roster and has a bright future.
