Early 2021 NFL free agency rankings: George Kittle headlines top 70 players
By Samuel Teets
38. Budda Baker, S, Arizona Cardinals
In 2017, the Cardinals selected Baker in the second round. He immediately became a special teams standout, making the Pro Bowl and earning a First-Team All-Pro selection for his work in that facet of the game. As a rookie, Baker played 64% of Arizona’s special teams snaps and only 48% of the team’s defensive snaps.
Baker’s role changed during his second season. He became a full-time defensive starter, and his role on special teams almost vanished. This past season, Baker made the Pro Bowl again. However, he earned the selection for his role on Arizona’s defense this time. Baker finished the year with six passes defensed and 147 tackles.
37. Leonard Fournette, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
When the Jaguars selected Fournette with the fourth overall pick in 2017, the franchise hoped he could become a generational player. Some analysts and scouts even compared Fournette to Adrian Peterson when the powerful back began making waves at LSU. Unfortunately, Fournette never became a superstar in the NFL.
Fournette put together a respectable rookie season, rushing for 1,040 yards and nine touchdowns in 13 games. However, he missed eight games in 2018, and Jacksonville’s organization began battling internal drama. Fournette produced 1,674 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns this past season, but the Jaguars still declined his fifth-year option.
While Fournette can have breakout performances, his injury history is worrisome, and he’s not an efficient enough player to qualify for superstardom.
