5 NFL teams hurt the most by not having a preseason

4. Carolina Panthers

Ron Rivera had been the Carolina Panthers head coach since 2011 which happened to be the same year that the team drafted quarterback Cam Newton. They had their share of success which included Newton winning the MVP in 2015 as well as Carolina making it to the Super Bowl. They came up short against the Denver Broncos but it was still an impressive season nonetheless.

Unfortunately, things started to decline over the past couple of seasons and the Panthers decided to move on from Rivera who is now the head coach in Washington. They also elected to move on from Newton, releasing their former starter and deciding to go with Teddy Bridgewater instead.

As for their head coaching vacancy, the choice there was Matt Rhule who rose to fame as the coach at Baylor. Rhule is popular for the way he meticulously builds his programs and his approach to the game has fans excited about what he can do for Carolina.

The problem is, he won’t have the preseason as practice games to work out some of his play-calling. They also won’t be able to get Bridgewater some live action with his new offensive teammates — which would be incredibly beneficial for him.

Rhule was given a seven-year contract so there’s no denying he’s here for the long haul but 2020 could get off to a slower start than he expected due to the cancellation of the preseason.
