4 Worst NFL starting quarterback situations in 2020
By Dustin Baker
2. Los Angeles Chargers
Starting QB: Tyrod Taylor
This 2020 quarterback situation ends one way and one way only.
Tyrod Taylor will be mediocre, or he will play poorly. At some point when determined by head coach Anthony Lynn, the Chargers will insert rookie Justin Herbert into the lineup, and it will be off to the races for the University of Oregon alumnus.
No other scenario will occur. Why?
History repeats itself. Two years ago, the Cleveland Browns set sail into the 2018 season with Taylor as their guy, and it only took three games for Baker Mayfield to seize the franchise and begin making Progressive Insurance commercials. The Browns never looked back, for better or for worse.
The number of games could very well differ, but this 2018 Browns scenario will be duplicated by the Los Angeles Chargers. There is no other reason to reach that high for a quarterback as was the case for Herbert. The man will play, soon. In the NFL of yesteryear, young quarterbacks rode the pine and learned, but we don’t do that anymore. We are in an Age of Immediacy in virtually every direction you look.
Tyrod Taylor will be a victim of this Immediacy Age and become a parcel delivery to the QB2 slot on the Chargers depth chart in 2020.
