Chicago Bears: 5 Players who could replace Eddie Goldman in 2020
1. Marcell Dareus
Marcell Dareus has had a very good career. He is a two-time Pro Bowl player and a former All-Pro. He is both good at both stopping the run as well as rushing the passer. In ten seasons, he has 37.5 sacks and 365 tackles.
Measuring 6-3 and weighing 331 pounds, Dareus takes up a lot of space. That helps him envelop ball carriers and quarterbacks. He is like a brick wall when opposing players run into him.
Dareus suffered a gruesome core muscle injury in 2019 that ended his season after six games played. Apparently the muscle came off his pelvis so he needed surgery. He missed the rest of the season.
Dareus was due to receive $20 million in 2020 and with his injury, the Jacksonville Jaguars couldn’t pay that. With the Bears, he could show the league that he’s back to his old self and can earn one more multi-year contract. Contributing to an elite defense like the one the Bears have will raise his value. The reason he doesn’t have a job at the moment is because of the COVID-19 virus that hasn’t allowed teams to get medical reports on players. With training camp underway, perhaps teams can see those reports.
If the Bears feel that Dareus is healthy, they can sign him for a one-year “prove it” deal. He still has the tools to play well, and if he comes in and helps this defense, it’ll be a win-win for both parties.
