The Seattle Seahawks start mostly veterans, but some young players could seize starting jobs this season.

Over the past two years, the Seattle Seahawks acquired plenty of young, talented players. As those players develop, they’re preparing to clash with the team’s veterans in battles for starting positions and snaps. The team’s offensive line and defensive front remain hotbeds for competition entering training camp.

Despite only possessing a few stars, the Seahawks routinely win ten games thanks to quarterback Russell Wilson. However, the future Hall of Fame signal-caller can only carry Seattle so far.

Eventually, a few players must step up and begin playing larger roles in the team’s success. Several of these future standouts could win starting jobs this fall.

3. Both guard positions

Outside of Duane Brown at left tackle, Seattle’s offensive line remains unimpressive. The team regularly sheds starters during the offseason only to bring in more band-aids for the roster’s largest wound. The team’s offensive line setup only works because of Wilson’s mobility. Without that critical element, the line wouldn’t be viable.

Last year, Mike Iupati served as Seattle’s starting left guard, and D.J. Fluker lined up at right guard. The Seahawks released Fluker in April, and he eventually signed with the Baltimore Ravens. The team brought Iupati back for another run, signing the 33-year-old to a one-year deal worth $2.5 million.

However, there’s no guarantee that Iupati starts every game in 2020. Phil Haynes, a fourth-round pick from last year, could unseat Iupati at left guard. Meanwhile, rookie Damien Lewis is the team’s preferred starter at right guard. The third-round pick is perfect for Seattle’s run-heavy offense. His path to the starting job became easier when Chance Warmack opted out of the 2020 season.
