Even at the age of 37, bringing back free-agent cornerback Tramon Williams makes sense for the Packers. Williams was quietly one of the NFL’s most productive corners in 2019, and he’d provide stability in Green Bay’s secondary for one more season.

Williams, who has seen two stints with the Packers over his 13-year career, has 34 interceptions and 152 pass breakups to his name. Last season he finished with two interceptions and eight pass breakups in seven starts. He played in all 16 games for Green Bay, primarily deployed as a slot cornerback.

The Packers currently don’t have a proven player capable of manning the slot on every play. One option could be moving Jaire Alexander around more often, but he’s proven to be a stalwart on the outside. Chandon Sullivan is another candidate to be the starting slot cornerback, though it remains to be seen if he can be relied on in a full-time role.

Re-signing Williams would also be beneficial in today’s current climate of the coronavirus pandemic. Williams has been with Green Bay for several years before, especially in defensive coordinator Mike Pettine’s scheme, so he wouldn’t need a ton of reps during training camp anyway.
