Adding Henry Ruggs was a great move for the Raiders since they were so thin at the wide receiver position. However, they also understood that just one receiver wasn’t going to be enough for them. For that reason, they went back to the well with pick No. 81 as they took South Carolina’s Bryan Edwards.

He’s not a flashy player the way Ruggs is but Edwards is a fantastic pick nonetheless. He possesses great size at 6-3 and 212 pounds and is as sound of a route technician as there was in the entire draft.

As a true freshman, he had 44 receptions for 590 yards and four touchdowns. He only improved every season after that and finished with 234 catches for 816 yards and 22 touchdowns. His numbers never jumped off the charts but that doesn’t mean he won’t turn heads once he gets rolling in camp.

The reason for that is he will show up as a technician when it comes to running his routes and his sure hands will win over everyone who pays attention. This year, the Raiders’ receiving corps is suddenly much more impressive and Edwards could be a player who gets himself on the field with the starting team very early in his career.
