2. Gerald Everett, Tight End

Another lost free agent this offseason was Jason Witten, who joined the Las Vegas Raiders. It’s the second time in two seasons that Dallas will be facing life without No. 82 as he did retire ahead of the 2018 season to call games for ESPN. Witten had his share of critics as he tried his hand at that job and in the end, he decided to return to the field.

He clearly wasn’t the same player he once was for Dallas but he still managed 63 receptions for 529 yards and four touchdowns. Most of his production will now fall on the shoulders of Blake Jarwin, who just received a three-year extension worth roughly $24 million. Even with the show of faith from his team, banking on Jarwin alone is a bit of a risk — especially with Blake Bell and Dalton Schultz as the primary reserves.

For that reason, Dallas could decide to make a move in the trade market and one potential addition could be Gerald Everett. A second-round pick out of South Alabama in 2017, Everett had 37 receptions for 408 yards and two touchdowns last season. It was his best year statistically, but Everett has yet to live up to the potential he showed collegiately.

With him entering the final season of his rookie contract, the Rams might be willing to get something in exchange for him, rather than waiting to see if he walks in free agency following the 2020 season. And while his contract situation might be a problem for the Rams, Dallas has preferred adding players on a year-by-year basis as of late, which makes Everett an ideal fit.

He could be brought in as insurance for Jarwin, and should the Cowboys projected starter shine as the No. 1 target, they could simply let Everett walk. However, if Jarwin struggles, they could have more options in the following offseason.
