Reserve/Squad (2)

This year, the NFL is allowing players a little more leeway with their roster. There are two spots they can use to move players from the active roster to the practice squad without exposing them to waivers — and they deserve a lot of praise for this move as it will help younger players get more exposure without having to be waived as soon as a veteran is ready to take their spot back.

Here we look at two players who are likely to find themselves filling out the 54th and 55th spot on the team — both of which are undrafted free agents at positions of strength.

Rico Dowdle, Running Back

With Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard on the roster, the Cowboys elected to go with only two running backs and one fullback in 2019. In this prediction, they did the same thing but can still use a player such as Rico Dowdle as a third halfback option.

Dowdle has NFL size and played in the SEC but struggled with health. When he was on the field for South Carolina, however, he proved to be a very capable back. He’s someone who it would have been fun to see play in the preseason but he could still do enough in training camp to make an impact.

Ben DiNucci, Quarterback

Ben DiNucci started his collegiate career at Pitt but finished at James Madison. There were several teams interested in him but he chose to sign with Dallas as an undrafted free agent.

Dallas is strong at quarterback with Dak Prescott and Andy Dalton but keeping DiNucci around would be a very wise move for them as it’s never a bad idea to groom more signal-callers.
