Dallas Cowboys roster: Cornerback (6)

Maurice Canady opting out might have hurt, had the Cowboys not added two solid rookies, as well as another decent free agent. Byron Jones left which isn’t ideal but they have faith in the remaining players.

Chidobe Awuzie

Right now, Chidobe Awuzie is the No. 1 cornerback and there’s no reason to be overly alarmed about this. Sure, he struggled some in 2018 and 2019 but it was clear he wasn’t being played to his strengths. As long as this staff doesn’t do the same, he should be fine.

Having said that, there’s also a chance he could move to safety. Of course, that will have more to do with their faith in the remaining corners than anything else.

Daryl Worley

Right now, Daryl Worley has the No. 2 job but Trevon Diggs will be gunning for him. Worley has great length and has held his own in the NFL for years, but he will still have to fight for his job.

Anthony Brown

Fans were irate that Byron Jones was not given a new contract but the fact is, he wanted way too much money. As for Anthony Brown, he was retained on a more team-friendly deal. He enters this season as the slot corner once again, a tough job that can often be thankless.

Trevon Diggs

Right now, Trevon Diggs is on the outside looking in. The second-round pick will be the future star of this secondary but he needs to be worked in slowly and the absence of the preseason means he won’t be starting right away in the regular season.

Jourdan Lewis

It’s hard to believe Jourdan Lewis keeps being overlooked. Personally, I have felt he’s been their best defensive back over the past couple of seasons. Even so, he remains benched and probably will again under Mike Nolan as he prefers taller cornerbacks much in the same way Kris Richard did.

Reggie Robinson

A fourth-round rookie out of Tulsa, Reggie Robinson was a find in the fourth round. He’s tall, physical, and has the length defensive coordinator’s dream of. He’ll take some seasoning but this kid could be a starter one day.
