The Dallas Cowboys get better on defense in this 7-round mock draft

This past draft might have been the best the Dallas Cowboys have had in recent memory. That’s some pretty big praise considering they rebuilt their entire franchise with some great selections in the 2016 NFL Draft.

That year, they landed running back Ezekiel Elliott, linebacker Jaylon Smith, defensive tackle Maliek Collins, cornerback Anthony Brown — and of course, quarterback Dak Prescott. All those players have become very good NFL players although they did lose Collins this offseason as he followed Rod Marinelli to Las Vegas to join the Raiders.

As good as that class has been, there’s a legitimate chance that the 2020 class could rival them. This season, Dallas went from a laughingstock to the ones who laughed last. With COVID-19 concerns forcing the NFL to hold the draft virtually, social media was buzzing with jokes about Jerry Jones being left at home to wildly make his picks.

There were serious worries about him landing his next Johnny Manziel — a player he desperately wanted but was talked off the ledge by his son, Stephen Jones. Without the younger Jones in the building, Jerry was set to go off the reservation.

Instead, Jerry Jones sat in his quarter-billion-dollar yacht and the Cowboys landed one great pick after another. They ended up with CeeDee Lamb, Trevon Diggs, Neville Gallimore, Tyler Biadasz, and Bradlee Anae in a class that could yield several starters.

It won’t be easy to follow up that act but we try here in this seven-round 2021 NFL Mock Draft, which starts out by landing the one position Dallas likely wished they could have done more with — defensive end.
