Justin Fields transfer: Ranking 6 possible landing spots
2. Florida State Seminoles
Despite how bad things got for Florida State at the tail-end of the Jimbo Fisher era and throughout Willie Taggart’s time at the helm of the program, talent has never been an issue. This team remains stacked with NFL-caliber players on both sides of the ball, even if the offensive line has been a problem. What they’ve needed is consistent quarterback play and a competent leader at head coach.
Hiring Mike Norvell should fix the latter issue and scoring a Justin Fields transfer would fix the former. Yes, the quarterback could find a number of better offensive lines to play behind but he’d be hard-pressed to find a situation with as much upside as he would with the Seminoles. If he could come in and get FSU back in the mix as a threat to win the ACC, that would speak to his talent and character, both of which would only boost his draft stock.
1. LSU Tigers
This one is so obvious that it almost doesn’t even need to be said. LSU are the reigning National Champions but they lost the heart of that title run, quarterback Joe Burrow, to the draft. Head coach Ed Orgeron and the Tigers coaching staff appear confident in his replacement, Myles Brennan.
But at the same time, Brennan isn’t Burrow. Frankly, neither is Fields. It’s an impossible task to ask any player to replicate possibly the greatest single season by a college quarterback in history. But Fields has a much higher likelihood of coming close after what we saw at Ohio State last year than the unproven Brennan.
LSU has an elite wide receiver group to aid Fields in his plight while also possessing a top-end pipeline of talent on defense. If Fields were to transfer to Baton Rouge and lead the Tigers back to the College Football Playoff, that would be another terrific narrative, one that the quarterback is more than capable of writing.
