Green Bay Packers players with most to prove in 2020 training camp
By Joe Kipp
1. Josh Jackson, CB
Perhaps no other player on the entire Packers roster has more to prove in 2020 than cornerback Josh Jackson. A former second-round pick in the 2018 draft, Jackson showed promise in his rookie season but regressed in 2019. Based on where he was selected, Jackson has a long way to go before his selection can be considered a success. He’s quickly entering the ‘bust’ category.
But his performance in his first two seasons doesn’t mean he can’t turn it all around. The Packers have two excellent starters at outside cornerback in Jaire Alexander and Kevin King, but the starting nickel role is up for grabs. Chandon Sullivan appears to be the favorite to grab that spot, but if Jackson can impress coaches in the next few weeks of training camp, who says he can’t earn it?
The Packers have a gigantic hole at nickel corner. Tramon Williams was the team’s starter last season but remains unsigned at the moment. The 37-year-old has stated he has no intention of retiring, but it appears the Packers will move on from their long-time cornerback.
If Jackson doesn’t show much promise early on in training camp, a scenario that could make sense for both he and the Packers is a player-for-player trade with another team. Jackson has high draft pedigree and is better suited for a zone-heavy scheme.
