The Dallas Cowboys need to replace Gerald McCoy on their D-line

On Monday, the Dallas Cowboys suffered their first training camp casualty and it was a big one. Newly acquired defensive tackle Gerald McCoy went down during a drill and immediately clutched his right knee.

He was then helped off the practice field and team COO Stephen Jones told the media he’d ruptured his quad tendon, meaning his season is over before it began. It’s frustrating for the player who was looking for a big season on his new team. It’s also hard for the Cowboys who were hoping McCoy would help them make huge strides on defense this season.

With him now gone, Dallas has options that they can consider. Here we will look at the three most likely scenarios for them when trying to replace the Pro Bowl defensive tackle.

Outside the box option: Neville Gallimore

The Cowboys do have some depth on their defensive line this season and the loss of McCoy will already test that. With him out, they could look to use one of their veteran players or they might be willing to give someone with no NFL experience a crack at the starting job.

If they did do that, Neville Gallimore is the one player who would make sense. The third-round pick from Oklahoma, Gallimore was widely considered a steal where Dallas drafted him.

The 6-foot-2, 302-pound Gallimore was a good run defender but also showed burst in the pass-rushing department for Oklahoma. Perhaps he can be a spark-plug for Dallas. Or they could kick around some of the following options.
