Top 100 NFL players entering the 2020 season: Nos. 50-41
By Samuel Teets
44. Joey Bosa, DE, Los Angeles Chargers
Bosa recently signed a five-year, $135 million mega-extension with the Chargers. The new deal pays Bosa $27 million annually, which is a record for defensive players. Myles Garrett set the previous record at $25 million annually earlier this offseason. While Bosa’s price tag is hefty, he’s worth every penny.
Bosa made the second Pro Bowl of his career in 2019. He also received a Second-Team All-Pro selection from PFF and a First-Team All-Pro bid from Sporting News. Bosa played in all 16 games, amassing 11.5 sacks, 31 quarterback hits and 54 pressures to go along with 67 tackles. Bosa has 40 sacks and 82 quarterback hits in his first 51 games played (four seasons).
The 25-year-old is a generational pass rusher who should dominate the NFL with his younger brother and Garrett.
43. Chris Godwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
After two promising seasons, Godwin became a breakout star in 2019. Playing with Jameis Winston, who notched a league-leading 5,109 yards along with 33 touchdowns, Godwin flourished. The Penn State product played in 14 games, making 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns. Despite missing two games, Godwin finished third in the NFL in receiving yards. His 95.2 receiving yards per game only trailed Michael Thomas’ 107.8.
Opinions on Godwin remain mixed. For his standout performance, he made the Pro Bowl and received a First-Team All-Pro selection from PFF while the AP gave him a Second-Team All-Pro spot. The 24-year-old took the NFL by storm, but there’s a lot left for him to prove.
While Godwin earned PFF’s highest overall grade among receivers last season (90.7), some analysts wonder if he can keep that miraculous production up with Tom Brady at quarterback. I even slightly favor Mike Evans over Godwin based on his output during some of Tampa Bay’s darkest seasons. If Godwin matches his 2019 performance in 2020, he deserves a top-30 spot.
