2. Earl Thomas

This one is extremely tricky. For one, Earl Thomas came off a torn ACL he suffered in 2018 with Seattle to join the Ravens and performed well, earning a Pro Bowl nod. However, he was not necessarily vintage Earl Thomas that was the heartbeat of the Legion of Boom once upon a time.

More than a slight dip in performance, though, Thomas was also apparently a tough fit in Baltimore. Even before the fight with Chuck Clark in training camp that led to his release, there were reportedly some issues with his fit within the Ravens roster.

That’s now two successful franchises who have let Thomas go in the past two years. While the Browns could use a player of his talent, he’s a huge risk as they don’t need to upset the apple cart as they try to build a positive culture in Cleveland.

1. Logan Ryan

Yes, Logan Ryan has played cornerback for his entire career. And depending on how serious the Greedy Williams injury is, the Browns might look to the veteran coming off of a Defensive Player of the Year caliber 2019 season to fill that void. But even if Williams is back on the field sooner rather than later, they could still look to Ryan as he reportedly would consider a position switch to safety in the right system.

As mentioned, Ryan was a monster for the Titans last year, racking up four interceptions, 18 pass defenses, 4.5 sacks, 113 total tackles and four tackles for loss. He was all over the place in the best possible way. His history as a slot corner throughout his career could serve him well in a transition to safety as he’s already proven his versatility. Subsequently, he should be considered the Browns’ top option to replace Delpit.
