Round 3

  • Team 1 (3.01) – Kenny Golladay, WR, DET
  • Team 2 (3.02) – Lamar Jackson, QB, BAL
  • Team 3 (3.03) – Julio Jones, WR, ATL
  • Team 4 (3.04) – Chris Godwin, WR, TB
  • Team 5 (3.05) – Travis Kelce, TE, KC
  • Team 6 (3.06) – Chris Carson, RB, SEA
  • Team 7 (3.07) – George Kittle, TE, SF
  • Team 8 (3.08) – Adam Thielen, WR, MIN
  • Team 9 (3.09) – Mike Evans, WR, TB
  • Team 10* (3.10) – Amari Cooper, WR, DAL

Sitting at the end of the third round, I was hoping that George Kittle would end up falling to 3.10. With the injuries in the San Francisco wide receiver corps, Kittle has massive upside. He was already the top pass-catching target and that should only be exacerbated due to circumstance. Of course, he went three picks before I got back on the clock.

That being said, I’m more than happy to start addressing wide receiver with the 30th overall pick in this fantasy football mock draft by taking Amari Cooper. Since joining the Cowboys midway through the 2018 season, Cooper has 1,914 yards on 132 receptions and 14 touchdowns in 25 games — and that was with playing through some injuries last season.

Cooper finished as the WR7 in non-PPR scoring leagues last season, which speaks to his effectiveness in the Dallas offense as Dak Prescott’s top target. The big concern for people entering the 2020 season, though, is the arrival of CeeDee Lamb and the possibility that the rookie could eat into Cooper’s target share.

For me, that’s not a concern. Not only do I expect Mike McCarthy to simply run a more functional offense than Jason Garrett did, but there are also targets for Lamb to take with Randall Cobb and Jason Witten gone, nearly 150 of them to be exact. Cooper is still the top target and, now healthy, he should produce another big-time season for America’s Team.
