Picking at the end of a round can be a nerve-wracking and pain-inducing experience. Much like with Kittle in Round 3 not quite making it to me, my hope was to really bolster the running back group by landing Jonathan Taylor at 5.10. Instead, he went two picks before I got on the clock, forcing me to change course.
Taylor going off the board soured the value at running back for me so, instead, I elected to look at wide receiver once more and get another guy who should be in a good position. Yes, that might be shocking to say about Courtland Sutton given the offseason that the Broncos had but it’s a hill I’m willing to stand on.
Denver added wide receivers with their first- and second-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft, taking Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler, respectively. That, in theory, could take away looks from Sutton. And while it may, Sutton is a player whose skill-set as a big-bodied red-zone threat and another downfield threat is not matched by anyone the Broncos brought in.
Sutton finished last fantasy football season as the WR17 after catching 72 of 124 targets for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns. The touchdown number is key for me as, in this offense and with Drew Lock hopefully being the right quarterback, it should go up. If it does, he could be a steal at the end of the fifth round if he’s there.
