At the start of the sixth round, my major concern was at tight end. My belief at the position this season is that Travis Kelce and George Kittle in the first three rounds are good but then you want to get one of the three guys in my next tier in Rounds 6 or 7. And with so many picks until I was on the clock again in this fantasy football mock draft, I pulled the trigger on Zach Ertz.
With three wide receivers on the roster and two running backs amid a dry spell at the latter position, this felt like a fine time for a tight end. I became a bit worried when there wasn’t another tight end who went off the board in Round 6 but having Ertz can still be an immensely valuable commodity for my roster.
Ertz actually finished last season as the TE5 in fantasy, though he did only play in 15 games. But here’s the thing. While Kittle and Kelce remain great options, the other tight ends in the second tier, Mark Andrews and Darren Waller, are primed for regression for me as the offenses should disperse some of their targets to wide receivers in the 2020 season.
Yes, the Eagles spent some valuable capital on the wide receiver position this offseason. However, I only see that opening up more quality targets for Ertz rather than force-feeding him like they had to last season. That should result in more yardage and quality red-zone looks, which solidifies Ertz as TE3 in the 2020 season for me.
