Round 7

  • Team 1 (7.01) – Marquise Brown, WR, BAL
  • Team 2 (7.02) – Kareem Hunt, RB, CLE
  • Team 3 (7.03) – Deshaun Watson, QB, HOU
  • Team 4 (7.04) – Aaron Rodgers, QB, GB
  • Team 5 (7.05) – D’Andre Swift, RB, DET
  • Team 6 (7.06) – Darren Waller, TE, LVR
  • Team 7 (7.07) – Terry McLaurin, WR, WAS
  • Team 8 (7.08) – A.J. Green, WR, CIN
  • Team 9 (7.09) – DeVante Parker, WR, MIA
  • Team 10* (7.10) – Ronald Jones II, RB, TB

Seeing that Darren Waller was the only tight end taken after I selected Ertz last round hurt as I could’ve potentially landed Dak Prescott at quarterback — one of the few I’m willing to take in the first six rounds — and then gotten Mark Andrews at 7.10 in this fantasy football mock draft. Regardless, I’m not unhappy with the roster at this point and it does free me up to take some mid-round fliers.

While a lot of the post-NFL Draft buzz around the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was that rookie Ke’Shawn Vaughn could be the lead running back, training camp has painted a different picture. Everything at this point is pointing to third-year runner Ronald Jones II taking over the duties as the top back on the depth chart, which is fascinating with Tom Brady at the helm.

Jones was just the RB27 in fantasy football for non-PPR scoring last season, which may not get many people excited. Having said that, Jones seemed to find his footing as a runner towards the end of last season and has truly improved after a dismal rookie season. More importantly, this offense should be more consistent and not have to chuck it as much with Brady at quarterback.

Brady has also traditionally loved passing to his running backs and, while this isn’t PPR scoring, Jones’ speed to create yards after the catch adds value there in non-PPR formats. If he is indeed established as the lead back in this offense getting the bulk of the snaps, then Jones has mid-RB2 potential this season, making him a nice shot to take at this point.
