Even though Brian Flores’ Miami Dolphins far exceeded expectations for the 2019 season by winning five games and not going 0-16, as some people predicted, the offense was not wholly functional. Specifically, the Dolphins had by far the worst rushing offense in the league a season ago, which was a construct of a lack of talent both in the backfield and on the offensive line.

Miami invested in the offensive line both in free agency and the draft, hoping to shore things up in the trenches to some degree, even if the completed product isn’t yet in place. But the Dolphins also added two running backs to help spark that rushing attack, signing Jordan Howard in free agency and trading for Matt Breida during the draft.

While I’ve always liked the talent of Breida, his health is an issue and he may be a pass-catching backup. As far as the majority of the rushing attempts in Miami go, it seems as if Howard is a shoo-in to be the lead runner in this offense. And while unspectacular, you can do a lot worse than Howard in that regard.

Though he was banged up last season with Philly, Howard has averaged 4.3 yards per carry over 57 career games with 3,895 yards and 30 touchdowns. Again, he doesn’t offer much as a pass-catcher. Having said that, he’s a sure runner that could provide some upside for this offense and, as a bye-week or injury fill-in, he should be a decent enough backup for you to roster this year in fantasy football.
