While the Raiders used one of their first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft on speedy Henry Ruggs III — a player who they clearly stay have high hopes for — the Alabama product wasn’t the only SEC wide receiver they targeted. Gruden and Mayock also went and grabbed South Carolina’s Bryan Edwards in the third round and the former Gamecock has been tearing it up in training camp.

It seems like every practice that there is another report of Edwards standing out in the wide receiver group. Most recently, the rookie was seen playing with the first-team offense. And while that might have to do with the Tyrell Williams injury, the truth of the matter is that Edwards has just been that good.

Edwards wasn’t necessarily a superstar in college but proved to be a consistent force despite shaky quarterback play. He had at least 793 yards in each of his last three seasons while totaling 18 touchdowns over that span. Now he steps into an offense where there are targets to be had and where the 6-3, 212-pound pass-catcher can thrive.

The wide receiver room in Vegas has gone from a weakness to a legitimate strength this offseason and Edwards is a huge reason why. With the way that he’s being talked about, we should see him being targeted early and often by Carr and racking up some impressive early-career numbers.
