The Cowboys saw something special in Blake Jarwin back in 2017. They landed the undrafted free agent tight end and then promoted him to the active roster late in the season to keep other teams from stealing him. He then spent the next three seasons developing into a weapon in the passing game.

In 2019, he was ready to step into the spotlight as the starter but Jason Garrett instead decided to go back in time and bring Jason Witten out of retirement. Now with Witten gone again, Jarwin is back in line to start and the new regime was confident enough in him to reward him with a $24 million extension that added three years to his contract.

And now in camp, he’s showing that he can blossom without Witten — and he’s caught the eye of executive Stephen Jones.

"“Obviously he’s right there — top handful of favorite Cowboys is Jason Witten — but it was hard to be a tight end in this organization when 82 was around,” Jones said via Patrik Walker of CBS Sports. “Certainly [Jarwin is] getting to spread his wings now, whether it’s Coach McCarthy, the offensive staff, his teammates, he keeps showing up out there. … He’s just — he’s really coming in to his own, and nothing would surprise me with him in terms of what his production could be this year. He just keeps getting better. “His rapport with Dak is outstanding, and I really think he’s got a chance to step right in there and be a really good, if not great, tight end for us.”"

Jarwin has been smooth in these practices and with Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb attracting so much attention, he could be a guy who makes defenses pay for forgetting about him.
