The biggest stories for the Dallas Cowboys leading up to free agency was what they would do with their impending free agents. They had several starters set for the open market and they ended up coming to terms with Amari Cooper and franchise-tagged Dak Prescott.

They then allowed Robert Quinn, Randall Cobb, and Byron Jones to all test the market, and all three liked what they saw. Quinn signed with the Chicago Bears, Cobb went to the Houston Texans, and Jones signed with the Miami Dolphins — who made him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.

Out of all the departures, Jones was the most controversial. With him gone, there was a fear the secondary would fall apart. However, that might not be the case if Trevon Diggs can turn his solid camp into a successful rookie campaign.

A second-round pick out of Alabama, Diggs has been all over the place on defense and on Friday, a video made the rounds on social media. Diggs read the route Michael Gallup was running and jumped in front of Dak Prescott’s pass. He got both hands on it and nearly picked it off.

This has been the norm for No. 31 as he’s been using his instincts and length to frustrate receivers throughout camp. There was a strong belief that the rookie was going to need to start this season on the bench but that might not be the case.

Diggs performance in camp is going to make it hard not to throw him out there with the starters in Week 1. And so far, he’s looking to be up to the task.
