Matt Nagy needs to end the Chicago Bears QB controversy and stick with his decision.

The Chicago Bears have a quarterback problem. This is not news to anyone that has followed them at just about every period in their history but it has been especially apparent in recent years thanks to the struggles of Mitchell Trubisky. We do not need to dig up the tired talking points about who the Bears could have had under center from the 2017 NFL Draft but the simple fact is that Trubisky has not lived up to his lofty draft position.

There were positive signs in his sophomore season as he helped lead the Bears to an 11-3 record, an NFC North title, and within a double-doink of a conference semifinal game. Trubisky had career highs in passing yards and touchdowns and his dual-threat ability was on full display as he finished fifth among quarterbacks in rushing yards with 421 in 14 games.

Digging a little deeper into those numbers showed a quarterback that was protected by his coach as his yards per attempt (7.4) were in the bottom third of the league. His success in 2018 may have been smoke and mirrors aided by the best defense in the league and a top 10 rushing attack.

Trubisky came back to earth in 2019 and even with a top 10 defense, couldn’t muster the same magic from 2018 and missed the playoffs after finishing 8-8. The problems were apparent as Trubisky struggled to make plays downfield and his already paltry yards per attempt dropped to a career-low 6.1 and he regressed in every other category.

He was also less eager to run the ball and accounted for less than half his rushing total from 2019. The Bears went from having a promising young quarterback to having one who was facing criticism at every turn and they decided to bring in a veteran presence to see what Trubisky was made of.
