Chicago Bears: Matt Nagy needs to make a QB decision and stick to it
Confidence is the key to success in Chicago
Regardless of who Nagy ultimately chooses as the Chicago Bears QB1, it is a decision he has to be comfortable sticking with for the long term. The old cliché is that “if you have two quarterbacks, you have none” and if he expects to be able to play musical chairs with his QBs then the season will be doomed from Week 1.
The quarterback needs to be the unquestioned leader of the team and whoever Nagy chooses needs to have the full backing of the coaching staff barring injury. If Trubisky is chosen then Nagy will have to show that he has confidence in him and allow him to push the ball downfield.
If Foles is the choice, then with it comes the decision that Trubisky is no longer a part of the Bears’ long-term plans and they should look to move him before his stock drops even further.
If Nagy and his staff want their offense to have full confidence in the quarterback then they will need to reflect that in their decision and the rationale for that decision. A wishy-washy approach will create doubt in the entire organization and you can pencil in the Bears for a top-10 pick in the 2021 draft if that is the approach they take.
