Could I have taken a quarterback at 3.01, looking at someone like Josh Allen or Drew Brees? Sure. But at the same time, my belief at the position is that the guys after the likes of Prescott, Murray and Watson are all in a very homogenous tier of their own and I was comfortable betting on the fact that a player I liked just as much would be there when pick 4.12 came back around.
Therefore, as I somewhat did with the Hill pick, I went with an elite player at another position, this time taking the top tight end on the board in Travis Kelce. A caveat here would be that taking George Kittle would’ve also been fine as they are 1A and 1B at the position but, in any case, the Chiefs superstar was the choice I landed on.
Kelce simply puts up numbers year-in and year-out. He had 97 receptions for 1,229 yards and only five touchdowns last season, finishing as the TE1 in fantasy. Now entering 2020, he’s going to continue to play the same massive role in the offense and could potentially be even better if his touchdowns revert to the mean as he averaged nine per season in the previous two years.
Having a stud tight end is a trump card in many fantasy football leagues, especially non-PPR leagues. There are only so many players with even the remote potential to produce at the level Kelce has consistently done so for the past four seasons, giving this team a distinct advantage with him being the pick in the third round.
