Round 8

  • Team 12 (8.01): Marquise Brown, WR, BAL
  • Team 11 (8.02): Hunter Henry, TE, LAC
  • Team 10 (8.03): Will Fuller, WR, HOU
  • Team 9 (8.04): DeVante Parker, WR, MIA
  • Team 8 (8.05): Austin Hooper, TE, CLE
  • Team 7 (8.06): Tyler Boyd, WR, CIN
  • Team 6 (8.07): A.J. Green, WR, CIN
  • Team 5 (8.08): Ryan Tannehill, QB, TEN
  • Team 4 (8.09): Ronald Jones II, RB, TB
  • Team 3 (8.10): Cam Akers, RB, LAR
  • Team 2 (8.11): Deebo Samuel, WR, SF
  • Team 1* (8.12): Brandin Cooks, WR, HOU

Brandin Cooks’ value is suppressed right now for two reasons. One, his concussion issues are a viable concern that could render him inactive at any moment. Two, his 2019 season was both plagued by injury and the worst since his rookie season. But at the same time, his past production and opportunity make him worthy of a mid-round flier to me.

Now joining the Texans, Cooks may well be the top wide receiver in the offense, or 1A and 1B with Will Fuller. And from 2015-18, he had over 1,000 yards in each of those seasons and totaled 29 touchdowns over that span as well. He can be a dominant force, especially in an offense that looks to throw deep, which the Texans figure to do. That sets him up for a potentially massive season if he can stay on the field.

Round 9

  • Team 1* (9.01): Jordan Howard, RB, MIA
  • Team 2 (9.02): Rob Gronkowski, TE, TB
  • Team 3 (9.03): Diontae Johnson, WR, PIT
  • Team 4 (9.04): Noah Fant, TE, DEN
  • Team 5 (9.05): Julian Edelman, WR, NE
  • Team 6 (9.06): Gardner Minshew, QB, JAX
  • Team 7 (9.07): Teddy Bridgewater, QB, CAR
  • Team 8 (9.08): Matt Breida, RB, MIA
  • Team 9 (9.09): Phillip Lindsay, RB, DEN
  • Team 10 (9.10): Sony Michel, RB, NE
  • Team 11 (9.11): D’Andre Swift, RB, DET
  • Team 12 (9.12): Joe Burrow, QB, CIN

Prior to struggling to stay on the field and then losing his job to Miles Sanders with the Eagles last year, Jordan Howard was a quiet stud for the Bears, even if they didn’t see him in that light. He only missed one game over three seasons and rushed for 3,370 yards on 4.3 yards per carry and scored 24 touchdowns over that span. That’s not bad production at all.

Howard comes to a Dolphins team that wanted to run the ball last year but couldn’t. Now they have a significant upgrade at running back in Howard but have also improved the offensive line. I wouldn’t expect Howard to be a top-10 running back by any stretch but, if he’s a top-20 player, he’s great assurance on your bench as a potential bye-week fill-in.
